Yesterday, I went to NYC to pick up my chef’s uniform. I really like going to the city, but I honestly never went when it was raining. I contemplated going for a while, but Marie made a good point that I cant just not go when its raining on school days . . . DUH!

So, Marie, Will (brother), and myself made a trek up to the train station and off we went.

When we arrived in Penn Station, we hit up an SBUX and got holiday lattes. RED cup is back! I got the gingerbread which is SO much better than the pumpkin spice latte IMO.

It was cold, and rainy and windy. Luckily we all bought umbrellas, but they were CRAP umbrellas which snapped and turned inside out more than I could handle.

When we finally got to the uniform shop I was disapointed to find out that they didnt have my size jacket ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I did pick up a lot of the other things I needed like my bar towels, aprons and . . . pants. I have a story about them, but I will save it for another post.

We started walking back toward the train station in hopes to find food. But, we were getting antsy and decided on Fork & Spoon which was a wholesome fast food eatery. They had a good selection, but I kind of wished we went somewhere where we could try something we havent tried before. I got some random food from the hot bar, kettle chips and HORRIBLE tasting tea that thank goodness came in a glass bottle I could use over again.

We decided to check out Macy’s before we headed home. Up on the 9th floor, they had all of their Xmas stuff set up. Lots of neat things. I started getting excited for the holidays.

We headed home right after . . .

Today I Learned . . .

  • Traveling in the city on foot, especially in the rain & snow is going to be a BITCH!
  • I need to spend a serious dollar on a QUALITY umbrella.
  • That each time I go into the city, I feel a little bit more comfortable.
  • I MUST buy UGGS or my feet will numb up and die at the first sight of snow.
  • I would be LOST without the iPad to guide me.
  • Chef uniforms are incredibly unflattering . . . the shoes are worse.
  • I really am excited to do this ๐Ÿ™‚

On October 30th 2o1o . . ย Chris, Mom, Jill, Marie and myself ran in the Monster Dash 5k to support Point Pleasant EMS in NJ.

In one word, I can sum up my first 5k ย . . . . FUN

The adrenaline of it all pushed me to run further without stopping for as long as I can remember.

Before I start I just want to give credit to our photographer . . . Dad. ย He got some great shots through the course of the race and we will forever have these to remember this awesome time ๐Ÿ™‚

When we got there, we went right in to receive our numbers. ย I was proud to be 1-2-3!

It was kind of cold so we all hung out in the sun.

We had an hour until race time, so Jill and I decided to to a warm-up jog back and fourth to the bathroom.

And Chris . . . he warmed up in his own weird way . . .

As time ticked by, we started reviewing the map and getting excited.

We all waited patiently at the starting line.

And before we knew it, we were off! ย Down the boardwalk, through the inlet and onto the streets. ย We were cheered on along the way by all of the EMS workers stopping traffic for us. ย We kept a really great pace only stopping to walk a couple times so Marie could rest her calfs. ย But we ran most of the way!

When we made it back to the final stretch on the boardwalk, we ditched Marie and picked up the pace. ย I ended up finishing in 35:38 which was WAY under my goal of 50 minutes!

Chris followed right behind me as Marie was not too far behind. ย Mom came in just over 40min and Jill kicked it into high gear to make it in 42min which is impressive for someone who walked most of the way!

We stuck around for the awards ceremony which began to drag on after a while. ย But, Marie did end up winning a pumpkin that she dug into shortly after.

We had such a blast and the sense of accomplishment makes things so worth it. ย I have such high motivation now, and we all cant wait for the next one.

It’s a relaxing morning for me ๐Ÿ™‚ which means a relaxed post for today.

But, if you are looking for a post on intuitive eating, check out my first ever guest post over at SMALLER FUN PANTS which also includes a ridiculous picture of me and a pink fountain.

So, I slept in which was glorious. I got to read blogs without rushing. I enjoyed watching morning tv on the couch while drinking expired gingerbread coffee that was still good IMO. I’m also getting our finances for November on track and planning out a fun trip on Thursday. *excitement*

Dad and Mom are in Lancaster PA, one of my favorite places for all things food. Dad has been sending me envy pics . . .

Here is a picture of Kaufman’s which has a crazy amount of food in bulk for cheap! Luckily I made a list for them ๐Ÿ˜‰

And just a hint of what they had for breakfast. Lancaster is king of the smorgasbord’s.

Anyway, I also plan to get to my parents house so I can do some laundry, go for a run and hopefully craft my first race recap post since the pictures are now in my possession ๐Ÿ™‚

Where is your favorite place away from home for food?

Happy Halloween!

Well, our costumes were a bust. Chris and I went as Katie and Micah from Paranormal Activity, but nobody really saw the movies so I just ended up looking like a jogger who stabbed herself.

Even so, I still had fun creeping people out . . .

Appearing in strange graveyards . . .

And stalking innocent victims . . .

Today, my legs are feeling ok except a little stiffness in my ankles. I took the day off from exercising because I could swear I feel the beginnings of a cold coming on. It may just be in my head, but I am taking tea precautions.

Unfortunately, Chris got called into work but Im spending the rest of Halloween at my parents. Handing out some candy, eating homemade chicken soup, making pumpkin bread and getting photography lessons from dad ๐Ÿ™‚

What did you do this Halloween?

Its no secret that I am going to be a busy broad in a few weeks when I
start school. Between commuting, working and studying(cooking) my social
life will definetly take a HUGE hit. Thankfully, I have friends that
understand, and of course Chris understands too, but I refuse to let our
relationship to take a back seat to all the madness which is why I am
introducing . . .

Date Night

My only full day off from any commitments will be on Thursday, so date
night would be perfect on this day. We will be having dinner, then watching
tv or a movie, playing a game, going for a walk or just hanging out being
stupid. Its a great chance to connect with each other and it will force me
to get creative with dinners and desserts ๐Ÿ™‚

This Thursday, we did a ‘practice run’, so I put on my most elegant pajama
pants.

And popped open my Hello Kitty champagne from Ashley.

Dinner was Salsa Chicken.

Recipe coming soon . . .

Afterwards, we went for an exact 2.36 mile walk around a huge loop by our
apartment. Im not sure about this route though, it got pretty scary at
night through the parts without a sidewalk.

We made it back in time to watch some Halloween Specials on TV and then hit the hay to rest up for a busy friday and 5k this weekend!

Date Night #1 = SUCCESS

Do you and your other half have a date night? What do you do?

Yeah, I’m slacking. But how couldn’t I be? Just look at our living room!

*shudder*

I swear, couple that with what the kitchen and bedroom look like and it’s grounds for inducing a Val panic attack ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Thank goodness I have a full day off to make a dent in all this madness.

That’s not all I have been up to though. I’ve been doing this . . .

No, not prancing around like a dumb ass . . . Running ๐Ÿ™‚

I even bought one of these!

(source)

Edit: ANOTHER one of these.

I had 2 ancient Garmin’s waaaay back in the day before running was cool ๐Ÿ™„ I have been entertaining the idea of a new one for motivation as I am truly at a place where I am ENJOYING running and there was a sale on this one.

I feel like I’m on a spending binge lately caused by the looming wrath of debt coming up in my very near future. I might as well buy it while I have it . . . I think?

Other than major boring errands, Marie and I have another 5 mile ‘res’ trek planned for this afternoon. This will be the last run before the 5k.

I also have a special dinner planned that I am excited about ๐Ÿ˜‰

What have you been up to?

Alright my friends. Its time to say farewell for an entire week! Unfortunately, I have to work a 12 hour day today, the day before vacation and I will be swamped with last-minute errands. I feel so blessed to have a blog with amazing readers who I am building wonderful friendships with. I am going to miss blogging and reading blogs and dare I say ill miss Twitter too?

I will not be bringing any form of communication with me except my cell phone. Where we are going, wi-fi is 75 cents PER MINUTE!. I am going to take this time to fully relax and unplug so I can feel refreshed for the exciting adventures ahead of me when I start school in November in NYC!.

I forgot I never told you where we were going! Chris and I decided to take another cruise. It was just the best possible option for the money we had. This would be our 3rd one. We are trying a new cruise line and an older ship which we are nervous about, but we are making stops at Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and Turks and Caicos.

How cool is that?!?

While I am away, I have some guest posts from some of my favorite bloggers so stay tuned. Feel free to show them some love, they deserve it! ๐Ÿ˜€

Tomorrow, I have a special guest post from my little sister so make sure you let her know if you enjoyed her story about how she is striving to finding balance at such a young age.

I will be back on Saturday 10/23 and will quickly check-in. I will compile my trip into a few posts during the following week will and get back to your regularly scheduled programming ๐Ÿ™‚

Time to relax . . .

Adios Amiga!

Dont miss me too much ๐Ÿ˜‰

xoxo
